Ottawa police have arrested a downtown pawn shop owner for allegedly selling stolen prescription painkillers out of his store.

The tactical unit raided the Gold Reflections pawn shop located on the 300 block of Dalhousie Street on Tuesday.

Police say they found nearly 500 Oxycontin pills, $9,000 in cash, three stolen credit cards and six Canadian war medals. Investigators say the pills are worth about $2,500 on the street.

The war medals were seized because it's an offence to pawn them, according to the Pawn Brokers Act.

Maofid Saikely, 65, was arrested and charged with various offences, including possession for the purpose of trafficking, trafficking and possession of credit card data.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Ottawa police at 613-236-1222, ext. 3343 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS).
