A dog in Val-des-Monts was shot and killed Wednesday morning when it wandered on to a neighbouring property, according to police.

MRC des Collines police said the dog, an Argentine Mastiff, went outside to pee and wandered from his owner’s property to a neighbour’s yard around 9:45 a.m.

The neighbour shot the dog with a rifle, police said. The dog died on a neighbour’s driveway.

Police said there had been no calls to police, bylaw officials or the SPCA about the dog in the past.

A 55-year-old man was arrested and charged with killing an animal and several firearms offences. He will next appear in court Oct. 6.
