Police divers searching for a missing Ottawa man in Charlottetown have recovered his body from the city's harbour.

Divers pulled Trevor Rankin's body from the city's waterfront near the coast guard basin in downtown Charlottetown Wednesday afternoon.

Police had been searching for Rankin, 38, since he disappeared early in the morning on Christmas Eve. He was last seen leaving a Charlottetown bar after a night out with his nephew.

He took a cab alone and was last seen by the cab driver. Police said Wednesday that they believe Rankin fell into the water and foul play was not involved. An autopsy has been ordered to determine his exact cause of death.

Rankin, who worked as a program adviser for Natural Resources Canada, travelled to Prince Edward Island to visit family over the holidays. He graduated from the University of New Brunswick before moving to Ottawa 10 years ago.
