An international chain famous for its ice cream scooped away the competition, as Dairy Queen has been voted Ottawa's Best ice Cream.

The chain earned a majority of the support with a cool 53 per cent of the votes.

The brand name recognition means that many people grew up chowing down on Blizzards and cutting into their decorative ice cream cakes.

"I think it's the experience every time you come here," said one customer. "I've been coming with my parents since I was a little girl."

Dairy Queen had nearly triple the votes of the second-place finisher, Twisty Cream in Carp.

  • Baskin Robbins 4%
  • Dairy Queen 53%
  • La Cigale (Chelsea, Que.) 7%
  • Scoops (Pakenham, Ont.) 17%
  • Twisty Cream (Carp, Ont.) 19%
