Bill Patterson was a special breed. He was substance over style. He was humour and thoughtfulness and warmth. He was a television personality, who was void of any ego. For more than two decades, Bill was a cornerstone of CJOH Sports, setting the bar high for those who have followed in his path.

His was a gifted story-teller who would turn the ordinary into magical. On Fridays Bill would tell us stories of senior citizens who continued to exercise. We met 80 year old hockey players and 95 year old golfers. Their stories became inspiration for others. Bill's segment that we call "You're never too old" is one of the most popular features on CJOH.

To viewers Bill was a respected professional who cared about his craft. To his co-workers he was a mentor and a friend. To his wife and three daughters, he was a rock.

Bill Patterson was only 51 years old when he died from a massive heart attack in the fall of 1999. He could never imagine how many people he has touched.
