The Crown wants a 10-year prison sentence for the prostitute who started a New Year's Day fire in a downtown Ottawa hotel after a couple demanded their money back.

Melissa White, 26, was found guilty of the Radisson blaze that sent the couple to hospital with serious injuries after backing out of a proposed tryst.

One of the victims, Shannon Oliver, spent 27 days on life support after suffering second-degree burns to 15 per cent of her body. Her companion also suffered burns.

On Friday Oliver was unable to read her victim impact statement because she still can't speak.

The initial investigation inside the hotel at 402 Queen St. uncovered an incendiary device and gas can. The second floor became engulfed in smoke when fire crews arrived shortly after 8 a.m. on Jan. 1.

The fire caused about $1 million in damages. Some guests broke windows to get out of the building.

More than 100 hotel guests, including foreign hockey teams competing in the Bell Capital Cup, had to be evacuated.
