BELLEVILLE, Ont. -- An overnight crash involving about 50 vehicles has shut down both eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Trenton, Ont.

The collisions, which included several tractor-trailers, happened just after midnight during poor driving conditions.

However, only four people reportedly suffered non life-threatening injuries.

More than 50 people were bused to a Ramada Inn in Trenton to spend the night.

Ontario Provincial Police had shut down all lanes of the highway in both directions from County Rd. 30 to Wallbridge Loyalist Rd.

However, one westbound lane was opened to traffic at about 5 a.m.
