Ottawa's Craig Dunbar is recovering from a kidney transplant at this hour. There's no word yet from the Ottawa Hospital on how the operation went but Dunbar's wife just posted that her husband was doing well. Dunbar was clearly optimistic going into it. He gave the “thumbs up” heading into the operating room. The photo was posted to friends on his Facebook site "Kidney4Craig."
The 41-year-old volunteer firefighter took to social media last year to try to find a kidney, after his dialysis access port was failing. He had been diagnosed with acute renal failure in 2007, with no apparent cause.
His donor is Ann Gervais who saw his story on CTV last year and felt compelled to help if she could. Craig tweeted a few hours before the surgery that “Ann is one of the bravest people I know. My donor and her family are amazing people.”
