TORONTO - Ontario's top court is granting an appeal of a sweeping publication ban on the divorce of convicted sex killer Russell Williams.

But it says the ban will be upheld for 14 days so that Williams' estranged wife can take steps to challenge the decision if she wishes.

A lower court judge banned publication of details about the former colonel's wife including her name, address, employer, income and medical information.

The ban also covers a deal the couple signed about six weeks after Williams was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of two eastern Ontario women.

Lawyers representing Williams' wife had argued that opening the proceedings to the public would cause her more harm than she has already experienced.

In a 28-page decision released Tuesday, the Ontario Court of Appeal says the judge who granted the publication ban and sealing orders on the couple's divorce erred in law.
