An Ottawa couple has been charged in connection with the illegal sale of nearly $1 million worth of fraudulent jewelry and handbags.

Debbie Craddock, 41, faces seven counts, including three Copyright Act offences and five charges for smuggling, distribution and sale of jewelry sold under the brand name of Tiffany and Co., as well as designer handbags.

Her husband, Sean Craddock, has been charged with welfare fraud.

It's alleged that the couple sold about $800,000 worth of counterfeit Tiffany jewelry at private parties and over the internet, marketing the items as the real thing.
