The councillor for the area where a Carleton student was killed while biking is calling for a lower speed limit on a busy part of Bronson Avenue.

David Chernushenko says he wants the limit lowered to 50 kilometres an hour between Holmwood Avenue and the Brewer Way pedestrian crossing.

That stretch of road is where Krista Johnson was killed Oct. 18, while cycling north in the southbound lanes in an area where bike lanes and vehicle lanes cross.

The limit is currently 60 kilometres an hour in that area and 70 kilometres an hour past Carleton University, speeds Chernuskenko says are too fast.

He also said he would like to see more of a police presence in the area to enforce the limits on what’s arguably one of the busiest north-south routes in Ottawa.
