Ottawa city council says it will hold a special meeting Friday to ratify a deal with a small transit union representing 140 OC Transpo supervisors, maintenance workers and special constables.

The city and the CUPE transit union reached a three-year deal on Tuesday, one week before those workers threatened to walk off the job.

Council is also expected to discuss the stalemate between city negotiators and the Amalgamated Transit Union as residents deal with the second week of a public transit strike.

Scheduling remains the key sticking point of the dispute that's caused lengthy delays and prevented many people from getting to work and other important appointments.

Although the city continues to urge the Amalgamated Transit Union to take its latest offer to the union membership for a vote, the union says it won't budge unless driver scheduling is taken off the table.

Federal Transport Minister John Baird told CTV Ottawa on Wednesday that his government's mediation service is available 24 hours per day to help the two sides reach a deal.

No new talks between the two sides have been scheduled.
