Ottawa's city council approved plans to go-ahead with preliminary construction at Lansdowne Park Wednesday.
In a news release from the City's media department, it states "council voted to authorize work that is essential to the redevelopment of Lansdowne" and that "going ahead with these preliminary construction works does not constitute the legal close of the Lansdowne Partnership Plan with the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group."
Plans for a redeveloped Lansdowne Park include a renovated stadium and Civic Centre, new City park beside the Rideau Canal and an urban village made up of stores, restaurants, and residences.
Preliminary construction work includes:
- Moving the Horticulture Building
- Relocating contaminated soil
- Demolishing the Coliseum Building
The approval means advancing $12.6 million of the $14 million construction budget already approved by council.
The estimated total cost of the stadium, a part of the parking garage and site-servicing work is $129.3 million. PCL Constructors, Ellis Don and Pomerleau have been shortlisted for construction of these aspects of redevelopment. City officials say the companies were shortlisted through public tender.
