A Cornwall police officer is facing child luring and prostitution charges in Quebec following a two-year investigation.
The Sûreté du Québec said Friday Const. Pascal Rossignol has been charged with invitation to sexual touching, child luring on the internet and two counts of prostitution of a person under the age of 18.
They said Cornwall police were made aware of allegations against Rossignol on Oct. 13, 2010.
He was relieved of his duties on that day and the matter was referred to the provincial Special Investigations Unit, which determined the alleged offences happened in Quebec and turned it over to the SQ.
Rossignol has been a member of the Cornwall police since May 2007 and is currently suspended with pay.
