The Central Junior Hockey League suspended two Cornwall hockey players Thursday, one day after Cornwall police decided not to lay assault charges for a devastating hit that sidelined an Ottawa goalie with a concussion.
Michael Borkowski, of the Cornwall Colts, received a two-game suspension for charging Kanata Stallions goaltender Scott Shackell during a playoff game in Cornwall on Sunday.
Shackell was knocked off his feet. He hit his head on the ice and was injured with a concussion.
After reviewing witness statements, video of the game and consulting with the Crown, police decided not to lay criminal charges.
In a separate incident that night, another Cornwall player went after a Kanata player with his stick. Those actions resulted in a seven-game suspension for defenceman Matthew Zanardo.
