The Cornwall Community Hospital is expecting an $8-million deficit by the end of the year.

The hospital says the shortfall is caused by a jump in expenses. The hospital has hired Dr. Chris Carruthers, former chief of staff at the Ottawa Hospital, to review its books and recommend any changes.

The Cornwall hospital hopes to get additional funding from the provincial government to help with the shortfall of cash.

According to provincial law, Ontario hospitals must balance their books every year.
