OPP confirm a construction worker has died after being struck by a car on Highway 17 late Monday morning near Arnprior.

OPP say just after 11:30 am, a black SUV crossed the median and struck two workers, as well as two construction vehicles. It's not clear what the workers were doing when they were hit.

The second worker was airlifted to the trauma centre in Ottawa with life-threatening injuries.

The driver and passenger of the SUV were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police dont' believe drugs or alcohol were involved, but they haven't ruled anything out. Investigators are reconstructing the crash scene trying to determine what led to the crash.

Highway 17 is currently closed from Campbell Dr. to Calabogie Rd. west of Arnprior, with detours in place. Police say it won't reopen until at least 9:00 pm Monday night.

Last June, five people were injured, two seriously, after a crash that involved five vehicles in the exact same location.

OPP are warning drivers to slow down and be careful in construction zones, especially when workers are present.
