The pedestrian bridge being constructed over the Airport Parkway in Ottawa's south end might have to be demolished or undergo major repairs due to problems with the concrete being used to build it, sources tell CTV News.

Dozens of tests have been conducted on the concrete in recent weeks. All of them have shown the concrete to be of poor quality.

The city is waiting for a report from Bray construction, company building the bridge. The report should be completed by mid-April.

The $5 million bridge is being constructed on the Airport Parkway between Walkely and Hunt Club roads.

It was originally scheduled to open last October but the only work completed so far has been part of the tower and supports on the other side of the parkway.

Residents of the area lobbied to have the bridge built to make the area safer for pedestrians.
