An east-end community is angry after a historic farmhouse was torn down to make room for a condo development.

The Gauthier House was demolished on Innes Road last week. The two-storey stone building is believed to have been built between 1875 and 1885 when the village of Orleans was in its infancy.

Coun. Rainer Bloess says city staffers who failed to prevent the demolition should be fired.

The only building in Orleans with heritage status is Butler House, located on St. Joseph Boulevard.
