Council chambers were packed Wednesday as more than two dozen delegates weighed in on the city's plan for a downtown tunnel and an east-west light rail link.
"We're presenting a petition to city council to ask them to put a five-year moratorium on building any new roads and to invest instead in better public transit, better cycling infrastructure and pedestrian infrastructure," said Lori Waller of Ecology Ottawa.
Ottawa city councillors are currently discussing which part of the city's new transit plan will be built during the first phase of the project.
City staff has already recommended a downtown tunnel and light rail to Blair Road in the east be included in the first phase of the project.
