For the fourth time this week, Ottawa residents woke up to record breaking cold temperatures.

The overnight low of -13.9C is the record for coldest November 17 in Ottawa history. The previous record was -11.4C set back in 1980.

Matt Haudder with Roots Down Organic Farms says the cold forced them to scramble and protect crops. He says “Last year it was a little bit later definitely so this is the end of cauliflower, last week for broccoli.”

Many found ways to keep warm. Mike Bonser went for a run along the canal- and says physical activity is the best way to beat the heat. “Nothing really surprises me anymore with Ottawa... so you just have to roll with it and look forward to spring.”

3 year-old Toby went tobogganing at Lansdowne with his dad Phillip Hughes. Phillip says, “It would be great if it held off a little while but you got to make the best of it we lives in Ottawa.”
