KINGSTON, ONT. -- Coding and I.T. are reportedly going to see hundreds of thousands of jobs open up in the next few years, and a non-profit group is looking to fill those roles with Canada’s military veterans.

The 'Coding for Veterans Career Caravan' rolled into its latest stop in Kingston on Tuesday.

“It’s a great opportunity for people in our military program to retrain for careers in Canada’s tech sector,” says Executive Director Jeff Musson.

Musson says he works in software and he noticed a few years ago that those in the military have useful skills that can be directly applied to the sector

“The best developers and those in the I.T. industry are people that have attention to detail. They work as teams and they have great leadership,” says Musson. “When you take a step back, you say, 'Wow, people in our military have these soft skills.'”

The caravan has made a number of stops across the province over the past week as it said it's looking for military veterans to take part in training, including an eight-month course at the University of Ottawa that gives members job-ready certification and training.

“They’ve sacrificed, and having a career in I.T. gives them stability, gives good paying jobs,” explains Musson in an interview with CTV News.

"We have tech companies, defence contractors, and government agencies interested in filling their talent requirements with graduates from our program, while at the same time, our program provides military veterans with a solid career in which to gain stable, long-term employment," the caravan's Executive Director Pat Shaw said in a statement.

Roughly 7,000 people leave the Canadian Forces annually and they want to bring troops from "deployment to employment."

The caravan will be available for in-person consultations in Trenton on Wednesday, Oct. 28, starting at 10 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 19 Quinte St, Trenton, ON. There will also be stops in Peterborough and in London, Hamilton, and Windsor, Ontario.

They will return to Ottawa ahead of Remembrance Day, stopping at the HMCS Bytown Officers' Mess, 78 Lisgar St. on Nov. 9-11.
