The Memorial Park dedicated to the memory of six people killed in the 2013 bus-train crash in Barrhaven is now open to the public.
The park is located in a corner of the Fallowfield Park and Ride at Fallowfield Station, near where the double-decker bus crashed into the VIA Rail train in September 2013.
A large, black granite boulder is in the middle of the park is inscribed with the message: “This memorial honours the individuals whose lives were forever changed on September 18, 2013 and is dedicated to the timeless memory of the six individuals who lost their lives. One event ... many realities.”
In a City of Ottawa press release, the park is described as having“rows of identical trees define order and symmetry around a central focus, and it is surrounded by distinct areas for quiet reflection for the families and all Ottawa residents.”
The park features six sections reflecting the lives of the six individuals who were killed in the crash.
Bus passengers Kyle Nash, Michael Bleakney, Connor Boyd, Karen Krzyzewski and Rob More, and bus driver Dave Woodard were killed in the crash.
The Transportation and Safety Board has not yet released a final report into the fatal collision.
