The City of Ottawa has already spent more than $5 million on legal costs for cancelling a previous plan to expand light rail in the capital.
City council will get an update by the end of this week regarding the $200 million lawsuit that was launched by a consortium led by Siemens.
The north-south light rail line was cancelled a few weeks after the 2006 municipal election. City staff are now pursuing a new plan for mass transit.
The $5-million legal bill includes the cost of preparing the original contract.
