It’s a competition that tests the brains, legs and stomachs of its participants, as the Mitsubishi Motors City Chase took over Ottawa streets on Saturday.
Five-hundred fifty pairs took on tasks that are usually the stuff of reality television as they raised money for charity.
“They get a clue sheet and race all around the city trying to get to ten chase points,” said event director Simon Williams. “The first team to complete the chase points and make it back is the winner.”
Challenges range from sword fights on pirate ships to head-shaving and even potentially eating a cricket.
Proceeds from the event are going to international sporting charity Right to Play.
“They're a leading international organization that does sport and play programming in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world,” said Liz Amorim, one of the top fundraisers who has raised more than $1,000 along with Justin Daravaggio.
Ottawa’s competition raised a combined $300,000 this year.
City Chases are also happening in Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Halifax.
The national championships are at the end of September in Whitehorse.
