A 44-year-old Ottawa man is facing new, more serious charges after the cyclist he's charged with hitting died in hospital Sunday.

Thirty-one year old Nathan Anderson had been unconscious since the Feb. 2 crash on Carling Avenue.

Forty-four year old Glen Carkner will now face criminal negligence causing death and impaired driving causing death charges.

Those go along with two counts of failing to remain at the scene of a collision and one of assaulting a police officer.

It's alleged Carkner was refused service at an LCBO, got into a minor crash in the Hampton Park Plaza parking lot, left the scene and then hit Anderson that Thursday afternoon near Kirkwood Avenue.

Police said they saw a silver Toyota Matrix hit Anderson's bike as they were responding to a call for an alleged impaired driver.

Carkner was arrested on the scene and is currently out on bail.
