OTTAWA -  The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid a number of charges in connection to a bank robbery on December 22 in the 700 block of Bank Street in the Glebe area as well as two other linked bank robberies.

On December 23, 2014, at approximately 11:35 am, a lone male entered a bank situated along the 1100 block of Bank Street. The suspect approached a customer service representative, indicated he had a gun, and made a demand for money. The suspect was provided an undisclosed quantity of cash and walked out without incident. No weapon was seen.

On December 29, 2014, at approximately 1:40 pm, a lone male entered the same bank as the December 23, 2014 robbery. The suspect approached a customer service representative and made a demand for money. The suspect left the bank with an undisclosed quantity of cash. The suspect was observed entering a cab by a bystander and was arrested at a Merivale Road address a short time later by Patrol officers. Police recovered a quantity of cash and an imitation handgun.

There were no injuries in any of the robberies.

Trevor SPARLING, age 41 of Ottawa, is charged with the following offences in relation to the three bank robberies:

  • Three counts of robbery
  • Three counts of wearing a disguise
  • One count of pointing a firearm
  • Three counts of possession of proceeds of crime

Mr. Sparling appears in court on December 30, 2014.
