As she lies in hospital in critical condition, 22-year-old Natasha Kaluarachchy faces charges in relation to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 401 Friday night that left one man dead and three people critically injured.
Her last Facebook status update on Thursday night referred to a trip to Montreal: "Mtl Here I come."
Kaluarachchy, who is from Mississauga, is charged with careless driving. Her Facebook profile says she is engaged, and working at a branch of the Peekaboo Childcare Center as she finishes up a college degree in early childhood education at Sheridan College.
According to police, the 2005 Ford Focus that Kaluarachchy piloted crossed the grass median into the westbound lanes of the 401 in Odessa, just west of Kingston, around 5 p.m. Friday.
Then it smashed head-on into a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer.
One passenger in Kaluarachchy's car, 24-year-old Syed Hussain from Toronto, died at the scene.
Also injured were a second passenger in the Ford -- 22-year-old Akhtar Shaheen from Mississauga -- and Zachary Rollins, a 23-year-old from Madoc, Ont. who was driving the Blazer. All three are at Kingston General Hospital.
Police closed the 401 eastbound lanes for three hours, and the westbound lanes for five hours, as investigators worked to reconstruct the crash.
