Ottawa's crown attorney has dropped charges against an elderly woman who hit and killed another woman while driving a car in a parking lot at Lincoln Fields Plaza eight months ago.

Claire Blouin, 85, was facing criminal charges for dangerous driving after she lost control of her car, which jumped the curb and plowed into a bus shelter in April.

Jacqueline Dyrkton, 66, was killed during the incident. Her five-year-old grandson who was standing by her side at the time of the crash was not seriously injured.

The crown attorney said the case won't be pursued because it's not in the public interest.
