Almost six months after Lachlan Cranswick vanished from his Deep River home, the 41-year-old's body was discovered in the Ottawa River on June 11 and his identity confirmed on Monday, Ontario Provincial Police said.

Cranswick, an avid curler, was reported missing Jan. 23 when he didn't show up for a tournament. He was last seen on Jan. 18.

Police searched his unlocked home and discovered his car parked outside, as well as his wallet and passport inside. Further investigation at his workplace -- the National Research Council -- turned up no further clues. Suicide and foul play were both ruled out.

Cranswick was originally from Australia and is expected to be buried with his parents there after cremation.
