Ottawa's cancelled north-south light rail project has cost the city nearly $55 million, according to a report released late Friday afternoon.

The money covers everything from engineering costs to legal fees, but doesn't include the pending $200-million lawsuit launched by Siemens and a consortium of companies against the City of Ottawa.

Siemens won the contract to design, build, and operate the proposed 30-kilometre light rail line. The project was shelved just after the 2006 municipal election.
