With just weeks left to go until the big night, Juno Awards fever was officially launched Friday in the capital.

Canadian band Simple Plan was awarded the Juno's 2012 Allan Waters Humanitarian Award for their commitment to helping children in Canada and around the world.

"We've been working on the foundation for a lot of years now,"

The buzz will reach fever pitch beginning March 26 when Juno Week begins. Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson says the week will focus on music fans in Ottawa.

"There's going to be a hoops tournament at Ottawa U, Juno Art at the art gallery, Gordon Lightfoot's trilogy at the Science and Tech museum," Watson said. "So it's going to be a great community event honouring some amazing Canadian talent."

There will also be a Juno Fanfare autograph session at St. Laurent Shopping Centre, as well as "Juno Fest"—a two night festival featuring 100 bands and musicians at dozens of venues across the capital.

The ceremony will take place in Ottawa on April 1. It's the first time the awards show has taken place in Ottawa in nine years and it's expected to bring $10 million to the local economy.
