With golf season quickly coming to a close, this time of year is often seen as the best for finding great deals on golf clubs.

But it's important for buyers to exercise caution, especially when buying online.

Local golfer Errol Abramson was scammed when he ordered a new set of Ping golf clubs from an website called igolfyoo.com. He charged $585 to his RBC visa.

Three days after the purchase, Abramson realized the clubs he ordered were unexpectedly coming from China. This tipped him off that he might have been scammed.

Golf expert Jamie Baxter confirmed Abramson's suspicions once the clubs arrived.

"This was a pretty easy one to tell right off the hop that it was not authentic," said Baxter.

Abramson contacted RBC Visa but the company told him he would have to accept the counterfeit clubs, prove they were fake, then ship them back to China before he could be reimbursed.

Abramson is reluctant to return the clubs though for fear that they will be resold to someone else who thought they were buying the real thing.

He is cautioning others to avoid falling for the same scam.
