Extra paramedics needed to be called in to help at Bluesfest Thursday night- after on-site staff became "overwhelmed" early in the evening.

Ottawa Paramedics say more than 200 patients were assessed on-site by medical teams. They responded to an additional 10 in the immediate surrounding area.

Paramedics had to send additional staff after their colleagues "became overwhelmed very early on in the evening," the service said in a release.

Complaints ranged from sexual assault, to fall related trauma, to alcohol and drug intoxication. Paramedics say narcan was required to reverse the effects of drug overdose.

In total, 19 people were treated and 10 were taken to hospital. Six of the patients were minors and were taken to CHEO.
