Police in Cornwall say they've seized a significant amount of illegal cigarettes and drugs crossing the border.

Cornwallis known to some as a smuggler’s paradise, bordering the United States, Quebec and Akwesasne.

A year long investigation called “O Stone” led to 12 arrests and 83 criminal charges.

Some of the suspects are believed to be high-ranking members of organized crime.

Cornwall Police are sending a strong message.

“No matter how big you are, we are going to come after you at some point and we'll use whatever we have to to do it,” said Sgt. Stephane Leclerc, Combined Forces Team Leader.

Residents hope sweeps like this project will clear up these problems for good.

“It's encouraging,” said John Chisholm, Cornwall resident. “We've seen first hand some of our neighbours properties being accessed for various uses, cigarettes, contraband particularly,”

Member of the Task Force say the fight against these smuggling rings is far from over.
