Ottawa residents sometimes complain about the need to liven up downtown's Sparks Street; however, the excitement does pick up during the 20th annual Sparks Street International Busker Festival.

The best street performers from around the world have gathered here for the long weekend, bringing the spectators along with them.

"Come on, look at this crowd," said David Kmon from Flame Oz, pointing at the group behind him. "It can't get any better."

Kmon's act, along with others like it, were literally lighting up the night sky Friday with their firey performances.

"I'd like it if he jumped through the flaming star," said one young onlooker.

"My favourite part is just seeing all the talent," another added. "It's really awesome."

Admission is free, but tipping the performers is highly encouraged.

This year's festival has 12 different performers going from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with the grand finale at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Sparks Street and Metcalfe Street.

You can see the full schedule here.

Metcalfe Street and O'Connor Street are closed between Sparks Street and Wellington Street between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Sunday and Monday because of the event.
