The union representing OC Transpo bus drivers and mechanics has elected a new president.

Gary Queale won the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 279 presidential election late Friday. Queale received over 300 votes more than the second place candidate.

Queale—who has 33 years of OC Transpo experience—will officially replace Andre Cornellier, who died in January. Union vice-president Mike Aldrich has been acting president since Cornellier's death.

The election of a new leader for ATU 279 comes after contract talks between the city and union broke down over scheduling grievances last week.

The union said they will not resume talks until the city resolves the issues.
