A 41-year-old Brockville man made a brief court appearance Friday after being charged with first-degree murder in his father's death.

Jonathan Madsen stood in the prisoner's box with his arms crossed and ankles shackled for the Cornwall appearance, which lasted less than 10 minutes.

Madsen, who is known to police, allegedly stabbed his father Michael at his Baldwin Avenue residence in Cornwall on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities were notified through a 911 call after someone stepped onto the home's veranda and yelled for help. Police arrested the victim's son at the scene.

Michael Madsen was taken to the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell Site, where he later died.

There is a publication ban covering all testimony on the case. Police are continuing their investigation.
