KINGSTON, Ont. -- A Kingston, Ont., boy is charged with assaulting a police officer.

Police say officers responding to a report of a 14-year-old boy beating up a 16-year-old boy caught the teen after a short foot pursuit.

However, they say the boy was unco-operative and aggressive and yelled to another 16-year-old to grab his bag, but officers warned the youth not to interfere with the arrest.

The youth allegedly ignored the instructions, grabbed the bag and attempted to flee, and allegedly punched an officer in the chest when he was detained for obstructing police.

Police say the 16-year-old fled when the officer had to leave him to assist the first officer in bringing the 14-year-old under control, but he was arrested a short time later.

The 14-year-old is charged with assault, while the 16-year-old is charged with obstructing police, assaulting a peace officer and escaping from lawful custody.
