The Ottawa police set up a perimeter around 292 Blake Blvd. on Saturday with a bomb disposal unit standing by, in relation to a search warrant having to do with the death of Said Kasbary in a Vanier fire earlier this week.

Blake Boulevard was closed between Lajoie and Lacasse avenues for several hours, with the bomb disposal unit there as a precaution. Police evacuated part of the building as a precaution, but wouldn't say why they called the bomb squad in.

Dalibor Orsag, 27, was charged with murder on Friday and made a brief court appearance that day. He was a former worker of Kasbary's and was supposed to receive an eviction notice on Wednesday night, when the fire took place.

The investigation is taking place in a Vanier apartment apartment building just across the street from where the fire was, 303 Blake Blvd.

Kasbary was the owner of several complexes in the Vanier, Walkley Road and Montreal Road areas and died in a suspicious fire in the basement of that building.

The superintendent for Kasbary at 303 Blake, Andre Bard, told CTV Ottawa that the accused lives next door to where the fire took place. He added that Orsag was fired after being accused of stealing money, and also had trouble making the rent.

Kasbary called two employees to work

Prior to his death, Kasbary was working in 303 Blake Blvd.'s rental office -- which was located in the basement -- as he usually did after working as a DriveTest examiner during the day.

He called two employees into work around 5:30 p.m. Neither was able to come, and he did not tell them why he was asking.

About an hour later, around 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, the office was in flames. There were no smoke detectors active in the building and tenants told CTV Ottawa they had to alert each other to get out in time.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze in less than half an hour, but were unable to get to Kasbary in time. He is Ottawa's fourth homicide victim of 2010.

Police have not said what caused the fire, but reopened the rest of the building to tenants.

Kasbary, 58, leaves behind his wife Hala and daughter Jennifer, 21. A memorial service was held Friday night, and his funeral was on Saturday.
