Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after a body was discovered along Highway 417 in Limoges Sunday afternoon.

On Monday night, OPP confirmed the victim is a 34-year-old woman from Ottawa. Her identity has not been released.

Police say they were called around 2:30 p.m. when a motorist noticed a body on the side of the road in of the 417, near mile marker 88. Upon arriving on scene the officers located human remains on the shoulder of the highway, according to A/Sgt. Angie Atkinson.

“At that time they activated some of our specialty units, the Forensic Identification Services, our Technical Traffic Collision investigators, and we also utilized in this investigation the Unmanned Aerial System.”

Police are now working to determine circumstances surrounding the woman's death.

People driving through the area yesterday tell CTV News it appeared the woman was struck by a vehicle. Atkinson says investigators are looking into all scenarios.

“There’s certainly circumstances that are part of the investigation that we need to focus on. Such as, who the person was and how they came to be in that location.”

The westbound lanes were closed at mile marker 88 and the on-ramp at marker 79 until midnight. Roads are now re-opened.

Officers who returned to the scene Monday afternoon could be scene combing-through the area once again. Atkinson says the investigation is ongoing.
