OTTAWA -- Ottawa police are investigating the discovery of a body in the Ottawa River just west of the downtown area.

Police received a call at 12:42 p.m. Thursday about a body in the water near the Chaudiere Bridge.

The Ottawa Police Service Marine, Dive and Trails Unit responded to the call.

In an update Thursday afternoon, police told CTV News Ottawa the body had been recovered from the water and the identification process was underway with the Regional Coroner's Office.

"The police investigation continues. Next of (kin) notification will be a priority for our service once the person has been identified," police said.
