Even with weeks of warning, it appears several neighbourhoods in the City of Ottawa have forgotten. Trash is now being picked up every two weeks. The change started today.

Several CTV Ottawa viewers contacted the newsroom via Twitter and email saying some homeowners who should now be putting out their garbage next week have it sitting at the curb today.

“I think 85 per cent of the city forgot or don’t know what’s going on in their city,” writes Jamie Van Dusen to CTV Ottawa on Twitter.

The change from weekly to bi-weekly garbage collection is a cost-saving measure by the City. It is expected to keep an estimated $10 million in city coffers.

On top of collection changes, city officials are also considering a limit on bags.

Garbage will be picked up on the same week as the blue bin collection.

Green bin waste will be collected weekly.

Families challenged by incontinence products or baby diapers can sign-up for collection service on off weeks.
