MISSISSAUGA - The province's police watchdog says a Belleville officer has been charged in an incident in which a man was bitten by a police dog.

The Special Investigations Unit says Justin Nolan, 31, suffered serious dog bite injuries to his right leg.

The SIU says Nolan's vehicle crashed after a short pursuit by police on Jan. 10 and Nolan left the scene.

He was later located by officers and a police dog, and the SIU says that's when he sustained his injuries.

Const. Jeff McNevin, the handler of the dog, is facing one charge of assault causing bodily harm.

The SIU is an arm's-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
