With bear season upon us, the Ontario Provincial Police in Lanark County are reminding the public to be vigilant.
OPP have already been called about bear sightings in the area of Beckwith Township. They say most of human-bear conflicts result from bears being attracted to the community.
Tips on keeping bears at bay:
- Store garbage in containers with tight-fitting lids
- Don't put garbage or compost out until the morning of pick up
- Put away bird feeders
- Clean outdoor grills
- Do not leave pet food outside
