Beach season in the capital officially gets underway this weekend.

The National Capital Commission opened its beaches to swimmers in Gatineau Park on Friday.

Residents and visitors will have daily access to the beaches from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Sept. 5.

There is a $10-entry fee for beaches at Meech Lake, Philippe Lake and La Pêche Lake in Gatineau Park.

Meanwhile, the City of Ottawa will officially open its public beaches on Saturday.

The beaches at Britannia, Westboro, Mooney's Bay and Petrie Island will be staffed with lifeguards from noon to 7 p.m. Those beaches will close for the season on Aug. 21.
