Barrhaven school board trustee Donna Blackburn is backing away from her support of the immediate rebuilding of Broadview Public School, sources tell CTV News.

Blackburn is expected to put forward a motion to renovate the school instead and conduct a study on how much it would cost to replace it.

The motion will also suggest selling the Ottawa Technical High School on Albert Street to generate funds to replace aging schools.

The money from that sale could then be used for schools like Broadview Public School.

Blackburn has been under pressure to change her position on the Broadview plans from politicians and parents alike.

She initially voted in favour of a $15 million rebuild of the central Ottawa school last week instead of a cheaper renovation.

The school isn't in Blackburn's community and several people in her Barrhaven jurisdiction said spending that money will take funding away from projects in their fast-growing area.
