Brittania Bay's Baja Burger Shack has the best hamburger in town, according to votes casted in a week-long contest run by CTV Ottawa.

"We take pride in our food but I'm honoured our customers would take time to vote for us, so I'm very flattered," said owner Les Richenhaller.

Richenhaller opened the burger joint at Brittania Beach in 2010. He is in seasonal operation and said he has already grilled more than 10,000 burgers.

"Everything is right from scratch," said Richenhaller. "Our buns are made just for us. Everything is fresh…and we cook everyone to order."

Richenhaller hinted they probably won because of a secret ingredient he was not willing to let CTV cameras film.

The race was close. Baja Burger Shack won with a 2 per cent lead.

  • Baja Burger Shack (Brittania Bay) 29 %
  • Sandy Hill Lounge and Grill (Somerset Street East) 27 %
  • Double Decker Dairy Bar & Grill (Main St. Manotick) 16 %
  • The Works (all locations) 16 %
  • Hintonburger (Wellington St. W.) 12 %
