It's back to school today for tens of thousands of students in Ottawa and Eastern Ontario.
While other school boards opened a few weeks ago, many kids lined up and entered new classrooms and met new teachers for the first time since last June. Four new schools are opening in Ottawa today including St. Benedict Catholic School in Barrhaven. Students say it's exciting to be the first ones at a new school.
Slow down
Ottawa police are urging motorists to slow down in school zones and be aware of pedestrians and cyclists. Officers will be conducting blitzes in school zones this week focusing on speeding and obeying school bus signals.
Vandals
Ottawa police are investigating after vandals sprayed a hateful symbol on the side of an Orleans catholic school. Someone sprayed a swastika on a shed at St. Theresa Catholic Elementary School over the weekend.
Several signs on the property were also vandalized. Crews cleaned up the graffiti this morning.
