The mother of a baby boy born in a jail cell at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre last year says he has died.
On her Facebook page, Julie Bilotta, under the name Julie Dakota Garlow, posted “How could this happen to us life will never be the same! We love you Gionni mommy will be with you soon.”
In earlier posts, she told friends that Gionni had been in hospital recently because he had been having trouble breathing.
Gionni had just celebrated his first birthday.
Bilotta gave birth in jail last year and claimed neglect by the correctional officers. The case resulted in disciplinary action.
Cornwall police have confirmed a baby died but would not identify the child as Bilotta’s.
